X
X is an open resting area located in a park.

Taking inspirations from the criss-cross patterns formed by tiles on traditional Thai roofs, it makes use of triangles to form enclosed and open spaces. The diagonal lines of the tiles can be seen through slopes of the triangles. Stacking of the triangles came from the action of stacking of roof tiles on Thai houses, giving the space more layers.
IDEATION
FORMATION OF ROOF TILES

Row of tiles are stacked on top of another row; stacking, layering, sliding.
EXTRACTING THE PATTERNS

01
Layering and stacking of tiles on the roof

Diagonal lines formed when layering the roof tiles
Diagonal, rectilinear
02

Symmetrical, mirror of the other half

Balance
03

Criss-cross language can be recreated with geometrical forms of triangles
04
AREA & DIMENSION OF SPACE

Open space

2 different scale of the triangles create an interesting visuals of balance and imbalance
Enclosed space
FIRST SKETCH MODEL 1 : 50

Experiment using triangles to recreate the criss-cross language. Opening up the bottom triangles to form seats for sitting.
SECOND SKETCH MODEL 1 : 50

Some triangles are stacked at the half point of the other to create more layers when viewed from the front and sides.
FINAL MODEL 1 : 25

Triangles open up to create seatings
Using spaces between to create more seats
Sheltered space for groups, picnics etc
Spaces at higher heights for scenery watching
Big triangles of height 160mm, platforms for classes etc
